Semax and Selank are heptapeptides designed by extending natural sequences with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro motif, which increases resistance to enzymatic degradation in experimental systems.
Structural origins
- Semax: derived from the ACTH (4–7) fragment, Met-Glu-His-Phe, plus Pro-Gly-Pro.
- Selank: derived from tuftsin, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg, plus Pro-Gly-Pro.
In-vitro research applications
Laboratories use these peptides in neuronal cell cultures to study BDNF and NGF expression, gene-expression profiling and neuropeptide receptor interactions.
Handling
Semax contains methionine, so protect it from oxidation. Both should be stored lyophilised at −20 °C and aliquoted after reconstitution.
Related reagents: neuropeptide reference standards. Each batch ships with documented HPLC purity and a Certificate of Analysis on request.
